Empress of Fae

Briar Boleyn

Rating: 4 out of 5.

SPOILER ALERT

Continuing on from the same ARC set that started with Queen of Roses, I went into this one already expecting things to get more intense.

This book picks up right after Morgan goes through the portal.

And yeah… let’s just start there.

Lancelet is alive.

I did not see that coming. At all.

I’m not usually a fan of bringing characters back like that, especially when their ending felt final. And this one definitely felt final. So at first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it.

But as the story continued and I started to understand how it happened, it worked a little better for me.

I really liked getting more character perspectives in this book. It added depth and gave a better understanding of what everyone was thinking and feeling. There were a few moments where I had to stop and remind myself whose POV I was reading, but it wasn’t enough to take me out of it.

I also had a feeling pretty early on about Arthur’s new wife.

I was convinced she was going to be Morgan’s sister, and I was right. I was actually really glad she wasn’t written as an evil character. It would have been easy to go that route, but instead, she genuinely cared, which made everything more interesting.

Now I’m really curious about their father, the high fae king. It feels like there’s something bigger going on with him, like he’s trying to become something more. Something closer to a god.

I’m still invested in the story, but this one didn’t hit as strongly for me as the previous books.
